This was announced by the director of the plant, which the occupants “squeezed” from Poroshenko, who stated that he was not going to surrender it to them.
Sevastopol Marine Plant was taken away from President Petro Poroshenko after the annexation of the Crimea and now the Russian occupants plan to transform it into the facility for maintenance the ships of their Black Sea fleet.
This was reported by “RIA Novosti” with reference to the director of the captured plant Vladimir Bazhenov.
For this, a program of “modernization and technical re-equipment” was allegedly developed.
The plant is located on two sites with a total area of 53 hectares. It has two dry docks, specialized hull repair, hull fabrication, marine equipment, systems, and pipelines workshops. Completion and mooring tests are held at special embankments, equipped with necessary communications.
According to Bazhenov, this creates conditions for the repair, docking, retrofitting and modernization of ships and vessels of various classes and purposes.
The Sevastopol Marine Plant was founded in 1783, it was privatized in the 1990s.
In 2010, the Prime Assets Management fund, which manages the assets of the Ukrprominvest concern Petro Poroshenko, bought out 60% of the shares of the Sevastopol Marine Plant from the Cypriot company Malter Enterprises Limited, controlled by Russian businessman Konstantin Grigorishin.
On February 28, 2015, the occupying authorities of Sevastopol decided on the so-called “nationalization” of the Sevastopol Marine Plant.
After that, the company became a branch of the Russian shipyard “Zvezdochka”.
Poroshenko himself said that he was not going to surrender this plant to invaders.
