President Petro Poroshenko appealed to the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches with a request to help promote the idea of elections “without violence, in peace and quiet.”
He said this at a meeting with members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches,
“Your appeal for public consent is sure to be heard. This appeal could be complemented by prayers for victory, peace, and unity in Ukraine,” the Head of State said.
In turn, the Supreme Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) Svyatoslav noted that the UGCC earlier together with the Ukrainian volunteers urged to “no to violence during elections”.
“It really worries us. That there is the manifestation of aggression, manifestations of hatred, opposition, and those who want to design it in the bosom of Ukrainian society. But perhaps those who are most trusted today by the Ukrainian people – the army, volunteers, churches and religious organizations – together will say: ‘no’ to violence,” said Svyatoslav.
