This sum spent on TV advertising is not yet the final figure.
Petro Poroshenko paid for political advertising on TV 2.5 times more than the cost of his entire election campaign in the last presidential elections in 2014. Analysts of the movement “Chestno” assert that only last year and during January-February of this year, the current Head of State, who plans to be elected for the second time, spent about 240 million UAH on his own PR on TV,.
According to data of “Chestno”, the advertisement of President Petro Poroshenko appeared in several waves on the Ukrainian channels during the whole of 2018. Last year, Poroshenko’s activity on television began in February. TV channels showed the video “Going Forward”, where retired people claimed that the pension had grown, the merged territorial communities Chairman said that the money remained with the communities, it was said that the teachers had got rid of the Soviet education system, etc.
This video has been labeled as social advertising. During February-March last year, over 150 of such promo videos appeared on various TV channels. According to TV channels in the first quarter of 2018 Poroshenko must have spent at least UAH 29 million on advertising.
Most of all Poroshenko’s inner circle paid to Teleradiocompany “Ukraine” owned by Rinat Akhmetov. One second on prime time on weekdays on this TV-channel cost 5658 UAH. A video with duration of 30 seconds costs almost 170 thousand UAH, and one minute is up to 400 thousand UAH taxes included.
During 2018 the Teleradiocompany “Ukraine” should receive approximately million UAH from Poroshenko for more than 400 commercials, and in 2019 again almost 17 million UAH for more than 100 commercials. At the same time the scale of Poroshenko’s TV advertising is constantly growing.
In April 2018, the TV channels showed the President’s four-minute video greetings on Easter. Such a video on “Novy Kanal” costs almost 250 thousand UAH in prime time, and about 80 thousand UAH at lunchtime.
During May-June, Poroshenko’s activities on TV channels decreased and then rapidly increase again in mid-summer. In the summer, the Presidential Administration reported that for TV advertising in support of the provision of Tomos to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Poroshenko paid with his own money. However, how much – is still unknown.
In the autumn there was an information campaign with the slogans “Army! Tongue! Faith! “. There are new slogans like “Away from Moscow!”, a statement that “… we got a visa-free, we are going to the European Union and NATO”. Most often, Poroshenko’s ad in September was shown by the “Pryamoy” TV channel. A new wave of advertising from the President began in November and continues to this day.
According to the “Chestno” analysts, even before the start of the election campaign, Poroshenko’s television advertising was worth about 175 million UAH.
From the beginning of 2019 (from January 1 to February 28 inclusive), Petro Poroshenko has already spent more than 54 million UAH on TV commercials. And the total cost of television Poroshenko’s advertising reaches nearly 240 million UAH.
