The officially registered advertising campaign on Ukraine’s receipt of tomos ordered by a presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, Petro Poroshenko and his so-called “Tomos-Tour” is in no way violates the current electoral law, but completely violates the principles of democratic elections.
Alexei Koshely, chairman of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, expressed his opinion in “Seichas uze” program on “Hromadsky” TV-channel.
“There were several waves of advertising “army, language, faith” and advertising about tomos. It can be evaluated differently, but it did not fall within the scope of the current legislation… As well as the advertising of Yulia Tymoshenko, as well as advertising that can be considered as advertising of the party “Servant of the people”, of Anatoliy Hrytsenko. We are talking about 17 potential candidates, and they did not violate the law, but we have publicly appealed and proposed to stop advertising campaigns, as this is within the framework of the current legislation, but violates the principles of democratic elections themselves,” said Koshely.
The chairman of the Committee of Voters said that the applicants have traditionally intensified their activities before the elections. This applies both to public speaking and legislative activities. It is noteworthy that just before the elections parliamentary parties are proposing bills that almost completely duplicate their election campaign.
“For the last year, we are witnessing that a large number of bills are registered to duplicate the slogans of the election campaign, a bill on doubling pensions of residents of the rural areas, about zeroing retired people’s debts for utility payments. To prohibit deputy activity or to make the president less active — it is impossible to even at the level of legislation. We can recommend not using our own leverage for PR campaigns that can be used, but in this case more,“ — summed up Koshely.
