Presently any candidate can request the National Police to provide armed security and protection for the duration of exercising his duties.
According to “UKRINFORM”, on February 6 the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov reported that 11 presidential candidates of Ukraine requested police protection.
“Now every presidential candidate has a proposal from us (I informed about it publicly many times), has the opportunity to contact the National Police to receive police protection for the fulfillment of their responsibilities as a presidential candidate. 11 people already benefited from this proposal,” – said Avakov.
The Agency doesn’t name the candidates who asked for security.
Minister Avakov emphasized that civil or paramilitary groups are not allowed exercise force functions of authority which are available exclusively to the National Police and National Guard.
“We will put an end to this once and for all. Yes, unfortunately, we have situations when groups of young people, more or less organized, accompany tours of presidential candidates,” admitted the Minister.
