The artist denied rumors that billionaire Viktor Pinchuk was supposedly behind him.
Singer and musician Svyatoslav Vakarchuk said that he has no links with the Ukrainian oligarchs.
This was stated by the leader of the band “Okean Elzy” in an interview to “Ukrayinska Pravda” newspaper.
When asked if Viktor Pinchuk tried to somehow encourage him to run for president Vakarchuk replied: “Where have you heard this tall tale?”
The singer noted that he “is not the source of these rumors and has never given a single reason to think so.”
Vakarchuk assured that he has no connection to Pinchuk and that he has been invited to the YES forum organized by Pinchuk for more than a year already.
“I believe that this is an important platform for discussing various topics, asking questions related to Ukraine and relations in the world. This event is attended by a huge number of interesting, intelligent, influential people. And I am very glad that there is such a platform. If there is an opportunity to perform there when I have something to say, I will definitely do it,” said the singer.
“I used my speech this time to show that the old political culture must become a thing of the past. That is what I said there,” added Vakarchuk.
“I have no relations with any Ukrainian oligarch and will not have it. This is against my principles. Let’s put an end to this,” he concluded.
