Radical Party leader Oleg Lyashko said that Ukrainians were knocked out the old “system of greed and oligarchy” and demanded Zelensky to stop the “era of poverty”.
Several factions of the Verkhovna Rada [ed. – Ukrainian Parliament] made demands on the newly elected President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to tell about his first steps as Head of State and voiced their expectations from him.
Relevant statements were made during a plenary session of Parliament on Tuesday, April 23.
Thus, the Chairman of the Popular Front faction, Maxim Burbak, said that Ukraine chose a new President and his main task will be to return the occupied territories and protect the country from Russian aggression.
He noted that in the previous five years, Ukraine had received visa-free energy independence, achieved sanctions against the Russian Federation, improved funding for its army and much more, and these achievements must be protected.
“The responsibility of the President is clearly stated in the Constitution – security, army, protection of rights and freedoms, foreign policy. And the President is obliged to adhere to the Constitution, where it is now clearly indicated that Ukraine is joining NATO and the EU. Such is the will of the Ukrainian people, ”said Burbak.
He noted that Zelensky is obliged to follow this course, and all attempts to capitulate to Russia are unacceptable.
“The President, the government and the Parliament must work together for the success of the country. We expect to hear from the new President about the planned steps for the first hundred days of his term, the first year and for the entire term. Now Ukraine more than ever needs honesty and realism,” concluded Burbak.
The leader of the Radical Party, Oleg Lyashko, said that Ukrainians were knocked out the old “system of greed and oligarchy,” but it could be revived if preventive steps are not introduced.
In particular, he noted the need to adopt a law on impeachment, which would force the President, regardless of his last name, to be accountable to the people.
Lyashko stressed that he was demanding that the new President end the “era of poverty” by lowering tariffs, raising wages, pensions, and so on.
“When a new team says that the President is not responsible for this, I want to remind you that the President can cancel the decisions of the government. And it was Poroshenko who signed the decision on the agreement with the IMF,” said the leader of the Radical Party.
“We are appealing to the new President to immediately revise the agreement with the IMF and cancel the government’s decision to raise tariffs,” added Lyashko.
Oleg Berezyuk, Chairman of the Self-Reliance faction, noted that the President is not a monarch, but a servant of the Ukrainian people; therefore, first of all, it is necessary to remove immunity from People’s Deputies and the Head of State himself.
He added that while the President is expected to have a transparent defense budget, security, including energy, the law on the destruction of Rotterdam + and other steps in the interests of the people.
A representative of the Batkivshchyna [Fatherland] faction Andrei Kozhemyakin also announced the need for an immediate impeachment law.
According to him, the corresponding document was registered by the faction in 2014 and now it is demanded to be included on the agenda of the Rada.
He also noted that the Ukrainians made their choice to elect a new President in a democratic way and this choice should be respected.
Kozhemyakin said that they are waiting for fundamental changes from Zelensky.
“It depends on the new president and on us, whether they will be [changes – ed.] Superficial and will lead to global changes in the future,” he said.
