
The entire Opposition Bloc faction voted against the law.
People’s deputies adopted the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language”, which began to be considered in the second reading on February 28.
For this decision voted 278 People’s Deputies.
Before the vote, the People’s Deputies were shown a film in which writers, poets, community activists, scientists, actors, church leaders addressed them, spoke about the importance of adopting a law on the functioning of the Ukrainian language.
The third President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko was present in the Parliament.
Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy noted that President Petro Poroshenko promised to sign this document.
After the law was passed, the deputies applauded standing, shouted “Glory to Ukraine”, and then sang a hymn.
