The President claims that the aggressor is deploying new military units near our borders, increasing the potential for a possible invasion.
President Petro Poroshenko declares that there is a real threat of a full-scale war since Russia is now making major preparations for an offensive.
He said this during an operational and strategic meeting with the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 26.
“The threat of a full-scale war is not a declaration. It is quite real, especially in light of the current military preparations of the enemy near the border of Ukraine in the Smolensk, Voronezh, Belgorod, Rostov regions and in the annexed Crimea,” said Poroshenko.
He recalled that the Russian aggression began 5 years ago, but the Kremlin “in no way refused the opportunity to achieve its goals in Ukraine by armed means.”
“The aggressor is deploying new military units near our borders, increasing the potential for a possible invasion,” said Poroshenko.
According to him, in the western strategic direction, the enemy continues to form the United Strategic Command “Zapad” consisting of 2 combined-arms armies, a tank army, an army corps, an air force, and an air defense army. In addition, in the south-western strategic direction, the Eighth Combined Army exercises direct control of two Russian army corps deployed in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
“We are witnessing an unprecedented militarization of the Black Sea region and on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea, the aggressor has created a powerful concentration of troops, which includes ground, air, and sea components, totaling more than 30 thousand military personnel,” said the president.
He added that rocket units equipped with Iskander complexes are being formed and deployed near our borders.
“This has absolutely nothing to do with a defense for the Russian Federation. These forces are intended for a military strike, and this is exactly what the Kremlin is preparing for,” said Poroshenko.
According to him, after 5 years of war society need to understand that Ukraine’s course should be towards joining NATO and the EU.
“Ukraine in NATO is a guarantee of our security. That’s it. There can be no discussions,” Poroshenko summed up.
