The Crimean authorities will prepare an analytical document on the “damage” that was inflicted on the Republic and the city of Sevastopol during their presence in Ukraine, starting in 1991.
TASS reports that this was announced on Friday, April 12, by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Crimea, Efim Fix, at the first meeting of the working group on loss analysis,.
Mr. Fix stated that the damage will be assessed for the period from the end of 1991 to March 2014, adding that the “total amount” will also include all the problems faced by Crimea after the annexation by Russia. In particular, “water, energy, food blockade”.
He added that in calculating the damage allegedly inflicted on Crimea by Ukraine, one can rely on the dollar at that rate at the time of the commission’s work.
“We have to go to the indicator – what point to take for calculation <…> Probably, the accepted norm is a dollar as of the date of our commission’s work…”, he said.
Previously the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin in March of this year proposed with the help of European parliamentary structures to oblige Ukraine to pay compensation to Crimea for economic losses inflicted while Crimea was a region of Ukraine.
