It will only be necessary to clarify why the Catholic turned to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) for the rite of burial.
The Orthodox Church of Ukraine carries out reforms and introduces new rules in churches.
In particular, in the OCU they may be allowed to set benches in churches, allow women not to cover their heads with headscarves while in the church, and lift the ban on funerals for Catholics.
OCU Bishop of Zaporozhye and Melitopol Photius urged priests to listen to the voice of the heart and act according to the commandments of love.
“If a man is baptized in a church of another submission and dies, we shall give him a funeral. Even if he is a Catholic,” he said.
The bishop noted that in the latter case, the priests need to clarify why the Catholic turned to the OCU for the rite of passage.
