
For Ukrainian armored vehicles, most parts are manufactured in Ukraine and a small number of components are purchased abroad.
After the scandal with embezzlement at Ukroboronprom for the purchase and resale of parts for Ukrainian military equipment, the state-owned company has stated that since 2014 they are actively engaged in replacing Russian military products, especially in the armored industry.
It is noted that the most critical problems of import substitution were solved in 2014-2015, especially with regard to the production of the newest Ukrainian armored vehicles.
“Since 2014, the enterprise has been implementing an import substitution program, the task of which is to completely break ties with the military-industrial complex of Russia. Within its framework, cooperation has been established with over 500 private Ukrainian enterprises, which have replaced Russian-made components with their products. In the production of the BTR-4 in 2014, 45% of Russian parts, 45% of Ukrainian and 10% of foreign parts were used. Already in 2015, it began to be produced without a single Russian part, and the share of Ukrainian and foreign components increased to 65% and 35%, respectively. In 2016, the BTR-4 already received 85% of Ukrainian parts and 15% of foreign parts. If to compare with the years 2014-2015, the most critical problems in the field of import substitution have already been solved.
